Sustainable Initiatives
Natural Lighting: We have implemented a natural lighting system that covers 40% of our work areas, and our goal is to extend this coverage to the remaining 60% by the end of 2023, allowing us to maximize the use of natural light and reduce energy consumption.
LED Lighting Conversion: As part of our commitment to energy efficiency, we have undertaken an LED lighting conversion initiative across all departments of our factory. So far, over 40% of factory lighting have been converted to LED lighting, resulting in a significant energy saving.
Renewable Energy: Taking our first step towards renewable energy, we have installed street lights powered by solar energy around our factory premises. Our short-term goal is to install solar panels to generate 50% of our power needs, reducing our reliance on the grid and minimizing our environmental impact.
Water Conservation: To conserve water resources, we have implemented a rainwater collection system. Rainwater is collected from gutters, undergoes purification, and is then reused for gardening and floor cleaning at MPDL, reducing our dependence on freshwater sources.

Environmental Stewardship
Chemical-Free Plantations: At Modern Printing Design Limited, we are committed to preserving a clean and green environment. As part of our efforts, we have planted over 350 trees in the open areas surrounding our factory premises. The harvested produce from these plantations is distributed among our employees, promoting sustainability and a healthier workplace.
Food Waste Reduction: We are dedicated to minimizing food waste and its environmental impact. Through our newly implemented composting project, 70% of our food waste is utilized to create nutrient-rich compost. This compost is then used to nourish the planted trees, ensuring a chemical-free harvest and further promoting sustainable practices.

Waste Management
In-House Waste Management System: At Modern Printing Design Limited, we have implemented a comprehensive waste management system to effectively handle different categories of waste generated within our operations. Our waste management policy covers cotton waste, paper & cardboard, plastic & polythene, biodegradable waste, and E-Waste. Competent staff members are assigned to manage these waste streams according to established standards, ensuring responsible and sustainable waste disposal practices.
Zero Waste for Landfill: To minimize our environmental impact, we have taken steps to achieve zero waste sent to landfills. For plastic and polythene waste, we have established an in-house recycling facility. Additionally, we have entered into an active agreement with Ceylon Waste Management for the proper recycling of other materials such as paper and E-waste. These measures contribute to the reduction of waste ending up in landfills, promoting a circular economy and resource conservation.
R Concept: We follow the principle of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” to manage both non-production and production waste across our office premises. By implementing strategies to reduce waste generation, encouraging the reuse of materials, and facilitating recycling processes, we prioritize sustainable waste management practices that align with our commitment to environmental stewardship.

Product: Our commitment to sustainability extends to our product offerings. We actively pursue sustainable innovation by developing bags with 50-60% recycled material, including both post and pre-consumer waste. Furthermore, we manufacture LDPE and HDPE bags using 30% post-consumer material, reducing our reliance on virgin resources. Embracing the concept of zero waste, we manufacture 100% recyclable products, ensuring that our offerings have minimal impact on the environment. As part of our ongoing efforts, we are also developing bio-degradable packaging materials, which we plan to launch in the first quarter of 2024. These initiatives reflect our dedication to environmentally friendly solutions that align with our sustainability objectives.
